"Buy me that, or I'll roll on the floor like crazy!!" or "I hate you!!" or "I wanna play in the rain" or "Mom, I lost my lunch box again!", these are some of the rants we used to say when we were young, well most of us.
Well, I was always the outgoing one when I was young. I was so hyper, maybe too hyper, that I got lost in dreadful places, not once, not twice, but THRICE! And it all happened when I was around 8, beat that!
When we were young, to play after school was on the top of our list. After a pencil case show-off, and a my-mom-bought-me chit-chats, we always run off to the nearest playground to play. Those games as "Bato-Lata"(Throw Cans), "Dakop-Dakop"(Catch me if you can) and the renowned, "Tago-Tago"( hide if you dare). When some kids were good at running, I was good at "Chinese Garter". Yes, the infamous, Chinese Garter. My playmates were no match for my then-thin legs of super flexibility and strength, that even the highest "BIBA" can't surmount. I was the Queen Bee, the savior, the Mother. And today, errm, yea I guess I still know a little leap and hoop, but what can I say, once you relinquish the crown, you relinquish the talent. Or so I think.
Those were the games. Those were the times. Those were those insignificant moments in our lives, that only gained value 10 years after. Those memories of our playmates punching us in the face, ripping our hair out, bruising our knees, stealing our lunch boxes, smelling like the sun, and pooping our underwear during class, those were the memories that have long occurred, but are kept as valuable as an Iphone5 and more.
Children has this lifestyle envied by adults. The times when we had nothing else to face but our second grade teacher teaching us division. Or early morning flag ceremonies that we tried so hard not to be a tad late. Or those daily cleaners assigning us to scrub floors and wipe windows. Envy those weeknights, watching Sailormoon or Dragon Ball Z, then have a good night sleep wherein in the morning, everything are prepped in our disposal. And those weekends of unlimited run and play.
Truly, we may not be able to blast ourselves back to the past and be young again, but we can live today as if it were yesterday. Living the present as if a child, a life without angst, hatred, grudge, nor deceit. If only we could be a child again, even just for a day, and see life in the eyes of the child we once were.
